At HY Edits, we place as much emphasis on the process of brainstorming as the writing itself. Depending on the package you choose, we can help you comb through past experiences and start a story from scratch, or we can identify ways for you to make that first draft into its best version. We’ll look for cliches, tell you where your ideas need clarification, and flag places you can be more concise. Based on what you're writing and where you’re at in the process, you can choose from one of several packages. We now offer bundle services as well, in case you have multiple needs.
ESSAY / COVER LETTER

Do you have a first draft that you know needs some work? Do you feel like your piece is getting there but just needs a bit more polish? This package is for those who have taken a serious stab at their response and are now looking for help identifying incomplete or redundant ideas, building emotional depth, fine tuning structure, and bringing out their voice.

**It's not uncommon for us to come back to you and recommend the coaching add-on based on how we feel about your draft. Personal writing, it turns out, is much different than analytical, persuasive, or scientific writing. This means that much of what we have grown comfortable writing over time must be unlearned for this exercise. Let us get an eye on your piece sooner rather than later so we can catch what works and doesn't for this writing form.
RESUME

Are you an early to mid career professional planning to apply to graduate school or a new job? We'll work with you to ensure you're communicating your experiences clearly and effectively, and ultimately are doing justice to the work you've done. We'll ensure you've included the necessary context and impact for every bullet point and line on that page.

COACHING

Are you drawing a complete blank after reading a prompt? Do you have an endless string of vague ideas but don’t know which to hone in on? Do you need help exploring, selecting, or refining what story to tell? If so, consider the coaching option (by itself or in tandem with an edit). We’ll ask the right questions and work one-on-one with you to find an angle and storyline that works.

An initial consultation to get to know you, learn about where you're at in the process, and collaborate on next steps

A second call to either continue brainstorming or provide a high level review of story direction of an existing draft

Ongoing support with one-off questions/advice
*If you choose to add the workshop option to your package, we will discuss a timeline that makes sense for you during our first call. Workshopping is an ongoing collaboration between all of us. Upon receiving your request, we will schedule an initial brainstorming conversation within a few days.

*All essays within a Bundle must be sent to HY Edits within 30 days of package initiation.
**Turnaround will be discussed at the time of submission. We ask for a minimum of 14 business days to complete all four essays if they are submitted simultaneously.
***If additional coaching is desired for each individual essay, the coaching add-on is required for further consultation.
